The warmest of welcomes awaits you at the Tam O Shanter Inn and Restaurant, the most famous pub in Ayr!
The Tam O Shanter Inn was established in 1749 and was, in fact, the first premises to be licensed in Ayr. The Inn is so famous due to the association which it has with Robert Burns. Indeed, the Inn was the inspiration for, and the setting of the most famous Burns poem, Tam O Shanter. The Inn has had many manifestations over the years including being turned into a museum by the local council in 1950. After being closed in 1988 and lying empty for five years, the current owners, the Cowan family, made a large investment in the Inn. A major restoration project was undertaken which saw the Inn returned to its former glory. The staff at the Tam O Shanter are, like the owners, all local people who take great pride in welcoming visitors and making their visit a positive one, whether it be for a meal or a night out.
